Not at all! Art therapy focuses on the process of making as opposed creating a finished masterpiece. The emphasis in on the exploration of meaning. I facilitate you to attend to how and when meaning emerges for you during the process of making and at the end of making.
Art therapy has many applications. During individual sessions I utilise the frameworks of counselling and psychodynamic therapies, always with a phenomenolgical approach. This means there is no interpretation of your art work. The meaning comes from you.
This way of working privileges lived experience and privileges multi - modal forming. This means we find ways to know more through our making and/or are led by the materials themselves.
Sometimes meaning can come through the connection with others while we are making, or the conversations that come with making, or what the making reveals to us.
Art therapy can be beneficial to connect with self, to unpack emotions and experiences or to work specifically with aspects of humaness such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss. Art therapy can be capacity building and empowering. Art therapy can be a deep dive or a delightful skip across the surface. Art therapy takes us beyond words where we can be with the unknown in whatever way we are showing up.
This depends on you. Some of the services offered at Liminal Space are one offs. Some services can be ongoing to offer more long term support.
